Prince William Faces Stadium Protests During Aston Villa Match

Future King Unbothered by Anti-Monarchy Chants and Banners

Prince William, who has taken on additional royal responsibilities amid King Charles' health battle, faced an unexpected situation during his latest public appearance.

The Prince of Wales, a devoted Aston Villa supporter, attended the club’s match against Celtic on January 29, only to be met with anti-monarchy chants from sections of the crowd. According to The Telegraph, banners reading “If You Hate the Royal Family, Clap Your Hands” were displayed, while fans chanted “Lizzie’s in a box”—a phrase mockingly referring to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The controversial chant, often used by anti-monarchy groups at sporting events, has previously led to fines for teams, with Shamrock Rovers recently penalized £8,540 for similar incidents. Reports suggest the visiting fans at Villa Park could also face consequences.

Despite the chants, Prince William remained composed and continued enjoying the game without reacting. The future King has consistently chosen not to address such demonstrations, reflecting his focus on his royal duties despite growing republican sentiment in certain circles.
