Newborn Joins Line of Succession and Gains Italian Nobility Status
Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have welcomed their second child, a daughter named Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. Buckingham Palace announced that the baby was born on Wednesday, 22 January, at 12:57 pm.
While Beatrice is not a senior working royal under King Charles’ reign, she retains her HRH title by birth. This also places her newborn daughter in the line of succession, where she now holds the 11th position, following her three-year-old sister, Sienna.
Athena also inherits a noble title from her father’s aristocratic Italian lineage. As Edoardo is an Italian count, his children automatically receive noble status. According to The Daily Mail, Athena will hold the title of nobile donna (noble lady), following traditional Italian customs.
“Edoardo is the only male descendant carrying the family name into the next generation,” a report stated. “He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically, and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
While British royals traditionally receive new titles upon marriage, Beatrice and her younger sister, Eugenie, retained their royal status but were not granted additional titles after their respective weddings.
