Princess of Wales attends rugby match with Prince William, missing niece’s birthday
Kensington Palace has shared new highlights from Catherine’s latest royal engagement after she made a personal choice to prioritise duty over a family gathering.
On Saturday, the Princess of Wales joined Prince William at the Six Nations rugby match at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, where her patronage of England Rugby clashed with William’s support for the Welsh Rugby Union. In the friendly rivalry, Catherine’s team secured a dominant 68-14 victory over Wales.
Kensington Palace later shared photos of the event, showing Catherine, dressed in a navy coat dress, warmly interacting with England’s players. "Great performance today @englandrugby," the caption read.
The update came as Catherine missed her niece Grace’s fourth birthday, the daughter of her sister, Pippa Middleton, and James Matthews. While the celebrations likely took place in Berkshire, Catherine was over 90 minutes away in Cardiff for the match.
Despite her absence, it is expected that the Princess would have sent her best wishes and a thoughtful gift, with a possible visit to follow at a later time.
