King Charles has secured a significant diplomatic win in the United States, receiving a warm response from President Donald Trump despite a recent pointed remark from Prince Harry.
The monarch personally extended an invitation to Trump for a state visit to the UK, aiming to reinforce ties between the two nations. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered the King’s message during his meeting with Trump at the White House on Thursday.
Reacting to the invitation, Trump expressed admiration for King Charles, stating: "Beautiful man, wonderful man. I've gotten to know him very well actually, first term and now a second term," as reported by Hello!
Speaking of the state visit, Trump described the invitation as "really special" and "unprecedented," emphasizing the strength of the US-UK relationship. He confirmed his acceptance of the invitation on behalf of himself and First Lady Melania Trump, adding:
"...we look forward to being there and honouring the King and honouring your country."
This diplomatic milestone for King Charles comes shortly after Prince Harry appeared to take a veiled swipe at political leaders during his speech at the Upfront Summit in Los Angeles. The Duke of Sussex criticised the rise of "sickness in leadership across sectors—from politics to tech" and warned that "service to others is sacrificed for personal gain."
Despite the apparent contrast in perspectives, the King’s outreach to the US has been met with positive reception, reinforcing his role in strengthening international relations.
