Monarch’s fluency in French and diplomatic approach leave guests in awe
King Charles III made a lasting impression on his Canadian guests during a significant meeting at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
The monarch, who serves as Canada’s head of state, welcomed Gregory Peters, the 17th Usher of the Black Rod since Confederation, and Raymonde Gagné, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada. The private audience lasted approximately half an hour and was marked by a “warm exchange of greetings.”
One highlight of the meeting was Charles’ impressive fluency in French, which reportedly captivated his guests. Although palace officials did not disclose specific details of their discussion, it is understood that national and international issues of great importance were addressed.
The meeting came shortly after outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s private talks with the King, amid rising geopolitical tensions. Charles has increasingly played a key diplomatic role, particularly following a contentious White House meeting between former US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Demonstrating his commitment to diplomatic stability, the monarch has worked to de-escalate tensions, showing solidarity with European nations while extending an invitation for a second state visit to Trump in an effort to maintain peace.
