Duke and Duchess of Sussex receive support from UK as political pressure grows in America
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly received a much-needed boost from the UK amid ongoing political tensions in the United States surrounding Harry’s visa status.
Following the Duke's admission of past drug use in his memoir Spare, there has been mounting scrutiny — particularly from figures aligned with former President Donald Trump. However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams claims that King Charles’ close relationship with an influential political figure has helped ease pressure on the Montecito-based couple.
Speaking to GB News, Fitzwilliams explained, “Donald Trump does not want a battle with a member of the Royal Family. It would be appealed through the courts and would attract a huge amount of publicity.”
He added that Trump “values his trips in 2018 and 2019” and his relationship with the Royal Family. “Harry is still fifth in line to the throne and is still a member of the Royal Family — that is why Trump does not want that [battle],” he stated.
While Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, they continue to live in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Despite their distance from palace life, their royal ties — and the King’s diplomatic influence — appear to be offering protection in uncertain times.
