Palace closely monitors situation as Pope remains hospitalised
King Charles has received concerning news as his anticipated meeting with Pope Francis in April may be at risk due to the Pontiff’s ongoing health struggles.
The King is scheduled to visit Italy and the Vatican as part of his royal tour, but uncertainty looms as the Pope battles double pneumonia and remains hospitalised with oxygen support. A Vatican source told Mirror that it is “too early to say” whether the meeting will proceed, as the Pope’s condition remains “complex.”
“Doctors are still being cautious about whether he will leave hospital any time soon,” an insider shared, adding that despite signs of stability, his prognosis remains guarded.
While concerns grow, a Palace insider has dismissed speculation of a cancellation, stating, “Plans are still in place for the visit to take place. Our fondest prayers continue to be with the Pope, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Officials remain watchful as the King’s diplomatic plans hinge on the Pope’s recovery.
