King Charles risks tension ahead of key political meeting

Monarch’s engagement with Zelenskyy reportedly ‘irritates’ Trump before state visit

King Charles III may have stirred political tensions with his recent meeting at Sandringham House, just as preparations are underway for a highly anticipated visit from US President Donald Trump.

The monarch recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has been embroiled in a heated dispute with Trump. This diplomatic engagement came shortly after Charles extended a formal invitation to Trump and his family for a state visit, which the US leader accepted, praising the King as a “wonderful man.”

However, royal expert Sarah Hewson believes that Trump may now be “irritated” by the King’s visible support for Zelenskyy, raising concerns about the upcoming meeting between the royal family and the US President at Balmoral Castle.

Royal photographer Arthur Edwards highlighted the significance of the Sandringham meeting, stating, “He's spent a lot of time with President Zelenskyy, and I'd love to know what they talked about. I know the King would have been totally on his side.” He added, “Having Zelenskyy and Trudeau together was a strong statement, showing where the UK stands.”

Hewson suggested that Trump may feel “a little less special” about his invitation after seeing photos of Charles meeting Zelenskyy. With tensions rising ahead of Trump’s visit, the King’s diplomatic balancing act could become increasingly delicate.
