King Charles Surprises Stella McCartney at Sustainability Event

Monarch jokes with designer as Palace shares details of his latest green initiative

King Charles III made a striking impression on fashion designer Stella McCartney during a Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) event at Hampton Court Palace on Tuesday. The 76-year-old monarch, in high spirits, engaged with business leaders and government representatives to discuss global sustainability efforts.

During the event, King Charles playfully suggested that McCartney convince her father, Sir Paul, to perform a gig for him. The lighthearted moment came as the King inspected various environmental projects showcased at the summit.

Buckingham Palace later shared details of the visit on social media, highlighting the King’s commitment to sustainability. A statement read:

"The King viewed a ‘Formula E’ electric car during an event marking five years since His Majesty founded the Sustainable Markets Initiative, which aims to put nature, people, and the planet at the heart of global economics."

The Palace also outlined key achievements of the SMI, including:

The Terra Carta: A roadmap for businesses to achieve sustainability by 2030, supported by over 250 CEOs.

Industry Transformation: More than 20 financial and industry taskforces now driving collective action toward sustainable transition.

Collaboration Efforts: SMI members uniting to accelerate decarbonisation.

Sustainability Challenges: Members encouraged to include at least one net-zero building in their portfolios.

Investment Mobilisation: Trillions directed into clean technologies and sustainable energy solutions.

Originally founded by King Charles in 2020 while he was Prince of Wales, the SMI continues to spearhead global initiatives for a greener future.
