Expert urges Duchess to stay silent and composed as she navigates image reset
Meghan Markle has been encouraged to adopt the calm and measured approach of Princess Kate as she works to reshape her public image following backlash over her latest Netflix series.
Now living in California with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Meghan appears focused on a fresh start—amid speculation of a possible thaw in relations with the royal family.
The Duchess’s new series, With Love, Meghan, which debuted on March 4, has received mixed reviews. Several media outlets gave the eight-part Archewell production low ratings, though some offered marginally better feedback. Meghan has not publicly addressed the criticism.
PR and social media expert Caitlin Jardine told GB News that silence may be Meghan’s best strategy for now. “In crisis communications, when it comes to reacting to social media, the best response is no response,” she said. “There is wisdom in knowing when to remain silent and when to respond.”
While Meghan has previously been criticised for reacting to media narratives, Jardine noted she has recently shown a more balanced communication style. “She’s been much more discerning over the past year, and I believe she has found a more thoughtful approach.”
Jardine explained that public sentiment remains fragile. “There’s not yet enough goodwill in the bank to shift perceptions significantly. Time is a great healer—and had she waited longer, people may have forgotten past controversies and shown greater interest in her current projects.”
Advising Meghan to stay above online disputes, Jardine added, “She just needs to avoid being pulled into unnecessary social media arguments.”
She also praised Prince William and Princess Kate’s handling of public life, suggesting Meghan look to them as an example. “She should take a lesson from her brother-in-law and sister-in-law and rise above the fray.”
Though Meghan hasn’t responded directly to critics, she did take a moment to thank fans after her series reached Netflix’s Top 10 within 24 hours—an indirect but confident nod to its early momentum.
