Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Allegedly Called Vanity Fair Cover ‘Racist’ Over Hidden Reference

Duchess reportedly furious over 2017 headline during early days of royal romance

Fresh revelations have surfaced regarding Meghan Markle’s alleged reaction to her 2017 Vanity Fair cover, with claims that both she and Prince Harry viewed the headline as racially insensitive.

At the time of publication, Meghan was still starring in Suits and dating Prince Harry. The cover story, which gained widespread attention, featured the bold headline: “She’s Just Wild About Harry.” While Kensington Palace reportedly approved the article before its release, the couple’s reaction behind closed doors was far less supportive.

According to royal author Valentine Low in his book Courtiers, Meghan was “furious” about the focus on her relationship with Harry rather than her personal achievements. More notably, the book claims that Meghan and Harry raised concerns about the headline itself, believing it carried racist undertones.

The couple allegedly linked the phrase to the 1939 film Babes in Arms, where the song I’m Just Wild About Harry was performed in blackface by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney — a detail they reportedly found troubling and offensive.

The incident sheds new light on early tensions between Meghan and the press, and suggests deeper discomfort with the way her identity was framed by the media from the beginning of her royal journey.

The resurfaced claims follow months after Vanity Fair published a separate critical feature exploring the Sussexes' post-royal life in Montecito, once again placing the couple under intense media scrutiny.
