Royal commentator questions oversight as Duchess’s lifestyle brand moves forward
Meghan Markle has come under scrutiny after successfully registering the trademark for her lifestyle brand As Ever, following earlier setbacks linked to administrative errors.
The brand, which evolved from her original concept American Riviera Orchard (ARO), faced delays last year when the application was returned due to multiple issues—including Meghan’s failure to sign the document, a mistake she had reportedly made in previous filings.
Royal commentator Richard Eden criticised the oversight during an appearance on Palace Confidential, saying: “You just think, ‘Wow, this is starting to get a bit weird.’” He went on to question the competency of her team, stating: “Her friends are keen to play it down, but clearly someone is doing something wrong. It’s about filling out forms correctly, and there were various aspects that had to be sent back.”
Eden also compared the situation to the standards expected within the Royal Family, adding, “If they were still parts of the Royal Family—blimey—heads would roll.”
While trademark registration is often a complex and technical process, Meghan’s status as a high-profile figure places her entrepreneurial efforts under intense public and media scrutiny.
As Ever, which promotes wellness, sustainability, and community-focused values, offers products ranging from candles and skincare to philanthropic initiatives.
Despite the early challenges, Meghan’s successful registration marks a key step forward in her expanding business venture.
