Duchess Reportedly Struggles with Fallout from Disappointing Show Reception
Meghan Markle is reportedly grappling with disappointment after her latest Netflix project failed to make the expected impact, raising concerns about the future of her multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming giant.
The Duchess of Sussex had high hopes for the series, into which she reportedly poured her heart, but critics have been harsh in their reviews. The Guardian described the show as “so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show,” while Variety dismissed it as a “Montecito ego trip not worth taking.”
According to insiders, Meghan had envisioned the project as a success but is now facing the possibility that not only will a second season be scrapped, but her and Harry’s lucrative Netflix contract could also be at risk.
“Meghan is keeping her head up and putting on a brave face, but it must be chaos in her world,” a source told InTouch Weekly. “She expected the show to be a hit, and now there’s concern that their Netflix deal might be impacted as well.”
Meanwhile, a TV industry insider revealed that Netflix executives are now questioning the long-term viability of their partnership with the Sussexes.
“It’s not a runaway success,” an insider told MailOnline, adding that the couple’s overall contract with Netflix “hasn’t been renewed yet.”
Although Netflix recently became a partner in Meghan’s lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, the company is reportedly hesitant about how to proceed with its collaboration, with concerns about when and how to roll out the product line.
