Duke and Duchess of Sussex highlight digital safety efforts after King Charles’ private letter
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released a statement championing youth-driven change in the digital space, following an important discussion at the SXSW festival.
Through their Archewell Foundation, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to support charitable initiatives, particularly in the realm of online responsibility. Their latest message reinforces their commitment to fostering safer digital spaces.
“We are proud of how these youth leaders’ voices are being amplified as they work to build a better online world,” the foundation stated, acknowledging the participation of members from the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund at the festival.
A key panel, Screens to Solutions: A Youth-Led Tech Revolution, featured experts such as Yoelle Gulko and Zamaan Qureshi, who explored the negative impact of social media, including loneliness and addictive business models. Another discussion, Rebuilding Social Media from the Ground Up, focused on industry reforms, with Emma Lembke calling for increased regulation and ethical digital practices.
“In the past, industries once deemed too powerful to regulate—such as big tobacco and the auto industry—were forced to change,” Lembke stated. “Now it’s social media’s turn.”
The Sussexes’ statement follows King Charles’ private letter to Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, welcoming him to office. While the contents of the letter remain undisclosed, Harry and Meghan’s latest message reflects their ongoing advocacy efforts amid uncertainty surrounding their Netflix partnership.
