Royal expert says Duke’s exit from Sentebale could reveal a harsher side amid deepening internal feud
Prince Harry’s abrupt resignation from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded nearly two decades ago, may mark the beginning of what one royal expert describes as a “very bitter battle.”
Speaking to GB News, commentator Richard Fitzwilliams called the situation “absolutely devastating” for the Duke of Sussex, suggesting it could expose a more combative side of Harry as he navigates the fallout. “There’s no question Harry has never recovered from what happened to his mother,” Fitzwilliams said, emphasising the emotional weight behind his work with the charity.
Sentebale, which supports children affected by HIV and AIDS in southern Africa, now finds itself in turmoil following a fierce leadership dispute. Harry stepped down amid a growing rift between chairwoman Dr. Sophie Chandauka and the board of trustees, including co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.
Dr. Chandauka has levelled serious accusations against the board, citing bullying, harassment, abuse of power, and discrimination, and has reportedly taken legal action to block her removal. She also reported the situation to the Charity Commission, sparking a formal investigation.
In a joint statement, Harry and Seeiso expressed their shock at the unfolding events. Five other trustees have also resigned, citing a collapse in trust and concerns over escalating legal and financial risks.
Fitzwilliams warned that this internal battle may significantly alter public perception of the Duke, stating, “This may show a different side to him.”
