Duke of Sussex reportedly fears threats to his family ahead of court hearing
Prince Harry has reportedly made a definitive decision regarding his return to the United Kingdom, as speculation intensifies ahead of his upcoming security case hearing in April.
The Duke of Sussex, who stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and now resides in California with Meghan Markle and their two children, has been engaged in a lengthy legal battle with the UK Home Office over the decision to downgrade his police protection when on British soil.
According to Express, former royal butler Grant Harrold believes that Harry’s reluctance to return to the UK stems from serious concerns for his family’s safety. Speaking on behalf of Techreport.com, Harrold claimed, “Harry’s biggest concern about returning is anyone trying to attack him or his family because there is a love-hate relationship between him and the British public.”
“He will be worried about that relationship. There is always a risk, and that will always be in the back of his mind,” Harrold added.
With no official announcement yet from the Duke’s team, insiders suggest that the combination of legal uncertainty and personal safety fears may play a significant role in his decision to stay away—at least for the time being.
“This is potentially the biggest reason he won’t return,” Harrold noted, “but I think it’s also to do with his family. As he hasn’t got the protection here, I’m sure it’s part of the reason he doesn’t want to return and is worried about any assassination attempts on him or his family.”
The court hearing is expected to further highlight the tension between Prince Harry’s desire for security and his strained relationship with the institution he once served.
