Leadership crisis rocks charity co-founded by Duke of Sussex
Harry has stepped down as patron of Sentebale amid a growing leadership crisis that has led to the resignation of several trustees and cast doubt over the charity’s future.
The Duke of Sussex’s decision followed mounting internal conflict with chairwoman Dr. Sophie Chandauka. According to reports, Harry and co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho supported trustees who attempted—unsuccessfully—to remove Dr. Chandauka from her position.
Appointed in 2023, Dr. Chandauka has remained firm despite the pressure. However, insiders now question the charity’s sustainability, especially in the absence of Harry’s visibility and fundraising influence.
Harry is said to be deeply saddened by the breakdown in leadership, with his resignation confirmed on Tuesday night. A formal statement from Sentebale was issued the following day, marking a pivotal chapter in the 19-year history of the organisation.
