Prince Harry’s potential return to royal duties has come under renewed consideration as King Charles remains in high spirits following recent public engagements.
The Duke of Sussex, who stepped away from senior royal responsibilities in 2020 alongside Meghan Markle, has once again found himself at the centre of discussions regarding his place within the monarchy. His recent success at the Invictus Games in Canada has further fuelled speculation about a possible reconciliation, particularly with his father, King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
In early February, Harry made headlines as he appeared in high spirits at the international sporting event, enthusiastically engaging with athletes and receiving a standing ovation at the closing ceremony. His unwavering commitment to charitable causes has reignited conversations about his potential return to royal life.
Sir Trevor McDonald, former ITV News at Ten presenter, shared his views on Harry’s absence, calling it a “great shame” in an interview with Saga magazine.
“We cannot afford to lose someone so young, so full of energy, and so imbued with the charitable instincts that are at the core of our Royal Family,” McDonald remarked. He also reflected on Harry’s striking resemblance to his late mother, Princess Diana, describing him as “unfailingly friendly, honest, and genuine.”
On Meghan, McDonald noted that she “never stood a chance of being accepted” due to being a “foreigner” but believed she could have “brought a new dimension to the monarchy.”
These discussions come as Buckingham Palace continues to provide updates on the King’s condition, with Charles making several public appearances in high spirits. The Palace has been actively maintaining royal visibility, though some suggest that Harry’s involvement could have further strengthened their efforts.
