Prince Harry’s Resignation Puts Sentebale’s Future in Doubt

Charity co-founded in Diana’s memory faces turmoil amid serious allegations and leadership fallout

Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Harry in 2006 to honour his mother, Princess Diana, is now facing a crisis of leadership and purpose following his resignation earlier this week.

The Duke’s departure, one of his final personal patronages since stepping down as a working royal in 2020, comes amid damaging claims from the charity’s chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka. She has accused unnamed board members of “poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny, misogynoir and the cover-up that ensued.”

Royal commentator Gareth Russell told GB News the controversy is far from over. “We’ve already seen statements and counter-statements from both sides,” he said, noting that the issue is likely to remain unresolved for some time. “There doesn’t appear to be a clear path to resolution. The conflicting narratives suggest this will continue to be a source of tension.”

When asked about how this might impact the Duke of Sussex, Russell suggested the outcome will largely depend on the charity’s next steps. “Any lasting effect on him hinges on how the matter is ultimately resolved.”

As for Sentebale itself, Russell admitted the future is uncertain. “The charity’s survival depends on whether the internal divisions can be addressed. But Dr Chandauka’s statement was very direct — and that could be a starting point for rebuilding.”

He added that the situation is all the more unfortunate given the organisation’s original purpose. “Sentebale was founded with a clear, noble mission. It’s disheartening to see it caught in such controversy.”

In her public statement, Dr Chandauka portrayed herself as a whistleblower exposing serious issues within the charity. “Beneath all the victim narrative and fiction that has been syndicated to press is the story of a woman who dared to blow the whistle,” she wrote. “I could be anyone. I just happen to be an educated woman who understands that the law will guide and protect me.” She declined to make further comment.

Russell concluded that a quick resolution is unlikely. “In terms of this being wrapped up anytime soon — I doubt that,” he said.

With Harry’s departure and no resolution in sight, Sentebale stands at a crossroads — its future dependent on accountability, clarity, and reform.
