Duke of Sussex avoids major setback as immigration records remain inconclusive
Prince Harry has received a partial victory in his US visa case after heavily redacted documents were unsealed, revealing no confirmation of what he disclosed about past drug use on his immigration forms.
The Duke of Sussex came under scrutiny after admitting to using cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelic mushrooms in his memoir Spare. The Heritage Foundation had pushed for the release of his visa application file, arguing that if he misrepresented drug use, he could face legal consequences, including potential deportation.
However, in response to a Freedom of Information request, US Judge Carl Nichols ordered the release of redacted immigration records, which were made public today. The documents contain very little information and do not clarify what Harry declared on his visa form.
According to the BBC, US visa applications specifically ask about drug use, and while admissions can lead to rejection, immigration officers have the discretion to grant entry based on various factors.
With his actual visa form not released, the case remains inconclusive, giving Harry temporary relief from the ongoing controversy. However, the debate over whether he received special treatment remains unresolved.
