Actor recalls intense fear and bizarre reaction after watching a scary film
Robert Pattinson has admitted that he can no longer watch horror movies, revealing that his sensitivity to them has increased over time.
In a conversation with Mickey 17 director Bong Joon Ho for GQ, Pattinson shared how his relationship with horror films has changed.
"I used to watch a lot of dark stuff when I was younger and think like, 'Yeah, this is cool.' And now, I'm too sensitive," he confessed. "It's strange, you'd think it would go the other way. As you get older, you become less frightened. But I can't watch horror movies anymore."
When asked if his new sensitivity was linked to fatherhood, Pattinson—who shares a baby girl with girlfriend Suki Waterhouse—clarified that his fear of horror movies began long before becoming a parent.
The Twilight star then recounted a chilling experience after watching a horror film for a meeting with a director.
"I kept thinking someone was breaking into my house," he recalled. His fear escalated to the point where he armed himself. "I was sitting on my sofa with two kitchen knives, waiting for the person to come in. And then I fell asleep with them basically in my neck on the couch."
Waterhouse was stunned to find him that way. "'What is happening? Why do you have two knives in your face and you're sleeping?'" he recalled her asking. Pattinson jokingly responded, "'It was probably a squirrel.'"
While the actor didn't disclose which horror movie triggered his reaction, it's speculated that it might have been Smile, as reports suggest he is collaborating with its director, Parker Finn, on a remake of the 1981 cult horror film Possession.
