Critic claims Duchess’s new series includes calculated nods to the late monarch
Royal expert Angela Levin has stirred controversy by suggesting that Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series With Love, Meghan includes subtle, calculated references to Queen Elizabeth II.
Levin pointed specifically to a segment featuring a green waffle recipe, calling it a symbolic nod to the late monarch. In an interview with GBN Originals, she also highlighted a scene in which Meghan appears with white hair, claiming it was a deliberate attempt to visually echo Queen Elizabeth.
“She’s very clever and cunning,” Levin remarked, describing the moment as “disturbing” and comparing it to the infamous curtsy incident Meghan once mocked during an interview. Levin suggested the scene was a “calculated” move, reigniting debate over Meghan’s portrayal of royal connections.
Despite mixed reviews, With Love, Meghan has climbed to the 10th spot on Netflix’s trending list and is confirmed for a second season. The series offers viewers a curated look into Meghan’s lifestyle and kitchen gatherings with close friends.
Meanwhile, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has publicly backed the Duchess, telling Variety, “I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture.”
The show’s success and ongoing controversy suggest Meghan’s presence in the cultural conversation remains as strong—and as divisive—as ever.
