Duke reportedly 'heartbroken' after learning of father’s hospital stay through media
Buckingham Palace is facing backlash for not personally informing the Duke of Sussex about King Charles III’s recent hospital admission, leaving Harry to learn the news through the media.
Royal commentator Ellen Coughlan expressed concern over the Palace’s handling of the situation during an appearance on GB News, stating that Harry was likely “devastated” by the lack of communication.
“I think it was a bad move by the Palace,” Coughlan said. “They claimed they didn’t want to alarm him, but I’m sure he was more alarmed by finding out with the rest of the public. A simple heads-up could have given him some peace of mind.”
She added that the decision reflected a “disrespect” toward the Duke, who has remained estranged from the royal household since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
According to The Sun, the Palace reportedly avoided alerting Harry in advance to prevent unnecessary distress. However, sources suggest the decision has only deepened the emotional distance between the Duke and his family.
“He misses his family terribly,” a source told the outlet. “But no one is speaking to him anymore. He just wants to go for a beer with the guys, but his only friends now are the husbands of Meghan’s friends.”
Now living in California with Meghan Markle and their children, Harry is said to be heartbroken over the continuing divide, particularly as his father undergoes treatment for a serious health condition.
