Rose Farquhar’s presence at 2011 royal nuptials still sparks curiosity years later
William and Kate Middleton, who celebrate 14 years of marriage this year, have long been in the public eye—not just for their royal duties, but also for the swirling rumours and past relationships that followed them to the altar.
Before the couple met at the University of St. Andrews, where their love story began, William was linked to several young women—including one figure often referred to as his ‘first love’: Rose Farquhar.
Rose, the daughter of Captain Ian Farquhar, a former master of the Beaufort Hunt, reportedly met the future king at the Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire. The two were said to have shared a brief romance and later maintained a close friendship, even as William and Kate’s relationship went through its early ups and downs.
What raised eyebrows at the time was Rose’s attendance at William and Kate’s wedding in 2011—prompting media speculation over the continued bond between the prince and his early flame.
The friendship appears to have stood the test of time, as William was spotted attending Rose’s wedding to George Gemmell in 2022, more than a decade later.
Today, William and Kate share three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—and continue to be seen as the steady heart of the modern monarchy.
