Royal marks milestone with Labrador Club patronage amid monarch’s push for unity
Duchess Sophie has stepped into a meaningful new role as part of King Charles’ efforts to strengthen the royal family during his ongoing health challenges.
According to Hello! Magazine, the Duchess of Edinburgh has been appointed patron of the Yellow Labrador Club—following in the footsteps of both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The appointment comes as the monarch continues to make key decisions behind the scenes while undergoing cancer treatment.
Sophie marked the milestone with a visit to the club on Tuesday, where she spent time bonding with members and meeting several of their dogs. Dressed in an elegant outfit, the mother-of-two was warmly received by the group, with honorary secretary Sussie Wiles joking that they had to “watch carefully that she didn’t sneak one [puppy] in her pocket.”
Wiles praised the Duchess, describing her as down-to-earth and easygoing. “She made us all feel very much at ease—it was a lovely afternoon,” she shared.
The move aligns with King Charles’ reported dedication to uniting both the royal family and the nation in the lead-up to VE Day commemorations, with Sophie emerging as a key figure in that mission.
