Royal insiders say Meghan had 'nothing to complain about' over 2017 feature
Royal experts have come to the defence of former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter following his criticism of Meghan Markle's reaction to her 2017 magazine cover, which focused on her relationship with Harry.
Carter recently stated that he did not know who Meghan was at the time but decided to feature her after learning about her growing connection to the British royal family. At the time, Meghan was starring in the TV series Suits.
The October 2017 issue, titled "She’s Just Wild About Harry," centred on Meghan’s royal romance. According to Carter, the actress had hoped the piece would highlight her humanitarian efforts instead. Reflecting on her response, he remarked, “This woman is slightly adrift on the facts and reality.”
Royal photographer Arthur Edwards supported Carter's comments during an appearance on The Sun’s Exclusive show, stating, “She had nothing to complain about. She was lucky to receive that level of publicity at the time, as she was relatively unknown.”
The cover story came out just months before Meghan and Harry’s engagement was officially announced. The couple married in May 2018 in a globally televised royal ceremony. Two years later, they stepped back from royal duties and settled in California, redefining their public roles and relationship with the royal family.
