Princess of Wales to make first overseas engagement since cancer diagnosis under Rothesay titles
Kensington Palace has announced that Prince William and Princess Catherine will travel to the Scottish Isles for a special two-day engagement later this month—marking a meaningful milestone for the Princess following her cancer treatment.
The couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, will visit the Isles of Mull and Iona on April 29 and 30. The trip will focus on connecting with rural communities and exploring local conservation efforts—key causes championed by the royal couple.
“During their visit to the Scottish Isles, Their Royal Highnesses will spend time with members of the local community reflecting on the power of social connection and the importance of protecting and championing the natural environment,” Kensington Palace said in its statement on Tuesday.
The Palace also highlighted how life in these island communities offers a striking contrast to urban living, praising their deep sense of connection and shared responsibility as a model of compassion and resilience.
The Isle of Mull, located off Scotland’s west coast, is home to nearly 3,000 residents, while nearby Iona has a population of just 170.
For Catherine, this will be her first official overseas engagement since beginning cancer treatment—marking a significant step in her gradual return to royal duties. Though she has previously travelled abroad for personal time with her family, this marks her re-entry into public service on the global stage.
