Prince William expected to revoke Sussex titles when he becomes King, insiders claim
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles under King Charles III, but their royal status may not last beyond his reign, according to new reports.
The California-based couple, who stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and now live in the U.S. with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, continue to hold their titles—despite ongoing controversy and strained relations with the royal family.
A royal insider told Radar Online that King Charles is unlikely to take formal action during his time on the throne. “The monarch is very concerned about his image and fears backlash from his subjects. That’s why he’d never dare take away Harry’s Sussex title—despite all the hurt he’s caused,” the source said.
However, palace sources claim the monarch has quietly given Prince William the green light to act when he eventually takes the crown. “When King Charles does pass away, it’s a certainty that William will pull the trigger and strip her and Harry of their HRH status,” the insider added.
The couple’s titles have long been a point of debate among royal watchers, especially given Harry’s public criticism of the monarchy in interviews and media projects. Even Harry himself addressed the question of giving them up in a 2023 interview.
While the formal removal of titles would require an Act of Parliament, sources claim the palace has already held behind-the-scenes meetings to discuss the logistics, with most senior royals reportedly in favor of the move—particularly if Harry and Meghan cross any further lines.
For now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain officially titled. But their future status within the royal fold appears increasingly uncertain as the monarchy looks ahead to the next generation.
