King Charles Reconnects with Trusted Friend in Italy to Champion Sustainable Fashion

Monarch and Federico Marchetti promote eco-conscious initiatives during moving cultural visit

King Charles shared a heartfelt reunion with a long-time friend during a meaningful trip to Italy, where they continued their mission to promote sustainability through fashion.

While on a four-day visit with Queen Camilla, the King toured the stunning Basilica of St Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia—historic sites that left him “truly enchanted” by their artistic and spiritual beauty.

In Ravenna, the monarch met with Federico Marchetti, founder of YOOX Net-a-Porter and leader of the Fashion Task Force under the King’s Sustainable Markets Initiative. The two have worked closely since 2021 to encourage environmentally responsible practices in the fashion industry.

Together, they explored intricate mosaics dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries, engaging in conversations about history, art, and their shared environmental goals.

Marchetti described the visit as “truly magical,” especially as the King recognised the mosaics from a book gifted to him years earlier. “He was truly enchanted by such spiritual beauty,” Marchetti told People magazine.

Charles, a long-time advocate for sustainability, continues to focus on fashion’s environmental impact, calling attention to the industry’s role as a major global polluter.

The meeting marked not only a personal reunion but a powerful reminder of the King’s enduring commitment to using cultural diplomacy and collaboration to inspire positive change.
