Prince Andrew Pressured to Tackle Royal Lodge Repairs After Family Gathering

Duke urged to act for sake of daughters as crumbling estate draws concern

Prince Andrew is facing renewed pressure to begin long-overdue maintenance work at Royal Lodge, following a family gathering that reportedly reignited his attention to the property’s worsening condition.

The Duke of York, who has been embroiled in a long-running dispute with King Charles over his right to remain in the 30-room estate, had previously avoided being moved to the smaller Frogmore Cottage by proving he could fund the property's upkeep himself. Despite that assurance, no significant repairs have been made to date.

However, the situation appears to be shifting after the Duke hosted a birthday celebration for his daughter at the Lodge. The return of family activity reportedly served as a wake-up call, highlighting just how neglected the property has become.

Property expert Robin Edwards told GB News that the vast size of Royal Lodge makes it more suitable for a large, active household rather than being occupied solely by Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. “The house likely feels empty without their daughters and grandchildren there,” he said.

Edwards also noted that the recent gathering reminded Andrew of the Lodge’s potential and the urgent need to preserve it—not just for himself, but for the future of his daughters. With rumours swirling about the Duke now having access to private funds, experts believe extensive repairs may soon begin, including crucial updates to plumbing, roofing, and the estate’s overall structure.

“If Prince Andrew wants to stay and keep the property in a safe, liveable state for his daughters, he must begin renovations without delay,” Edwards added.
