Sussexes Highlight Phone-Free School Movement While Awaiting Ruling on Protection Battle
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have marked a significant step forward in child safety advocacy as the Duke’s legal proceedings over security in the United Kingdom come to an end.
Harry recently attended a two-day hearing in London, challenging the Home Office's decision to remove taxpayer-funded security for himself and his family following his royal exit. The Duke argued that he was treated unfairly and that his safety—and that of his children—remains at risk. His legal team claimed he had been “singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment.”
While awaiting a final verdict, the couple’s Archewell Foundation released a public statement celebrating recent legislative progress aimed at protecting children in school environments. The organisation praised the ongoing success of the Phone-Free School movement, which has gained traction in several U.S. states.
“Legislation to create or implement methods for phone-free school policies advanced in Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, and New Jersey and is an example of innovative legislation prioritising youth well-being in learning environments,” the statement read.
The movement promotes policies that limit access to smartphones and other personal electronics during school hours—an effort closely aligned with the Sussexes’ dedication to safeguarding children’s privacy and mental health.
As Harry awaits the outcome of a case that could impact future security provisions for non-working royals, the couple continues to use their platform to champion youth safety and well-being on a broader scale.
