Sussexes receive troubling update as charity drama threatens public image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing mounting pressure as the fallout from the Duke's resignation from his co-founded charity, Sentebale, continues to escalate.
The Duke of Sussex stepped down from the organisation—which supports children and adults affected by HIV and AIDS—citing irreconcilable differences between trustees and Sentebale’s chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. However, the situation took a sharp turn when Chandauka publicly accused Harry of “bullying” and labelled the Sussex brand “toxic.”
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield discussed the controversy on GB News, stating, “She believes the rift began when she said, ‘I’m not an extension of the Sussex PR machine.’”
Schofield added, “She says she has no issue with Meghan, but refuses to publicly defend her, as she doesn’t want the charity associated with what she describes as a toxic brand.”
The commentator also noted Chandauka’s claim that Sentebale saw a sharp decline in donations following Harry’s departure from the royal family—raising further concerns about the charity's sustainability.
“What’s striking,” Schofield added, “is that Harry is now being accused of the very behaviour he once condemned within the royal family—using media influence to attack opponents.”
As the controversy unfolds, Schofield warned the Sussexes could be headed for a challenging period. “They’re going to have to deal with this PR-wise in the coming weeks. Meghan may want to focus on her As Ever brand, but the chaos surrounding this situation can’t be ignored.”
With their public image once built on philanthropy and reform, the ongoing Sentebale row now poses a serious threat to the credibility and influence Harry and Meghan have cultivated since leaving royal life.
