Duke argues he was unfairly singled out as legal fight over protection continues
Harry returned to London this week to personally attend a crucial hearing in his legal battle over the removal of his UK police protection.
The Duke of Sussex made a rare public appearance at the Royal Courts of Justice on Wednesday, where he was seen greeting a supporter upon arrival. The hearing marks the latest chapter in his ongoing effort to regain the level of security he lost after stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to the United States.
At the heart of the case is a 2020 decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC), which downgraded Harry’s official protection. His legal team argues the decision was unjust, claiming the Duke was “singled out” and treated unfairly compared to other royal family members.
Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima KC, criticised RAVEC for allegedly failing to follow its own protocols, specifically for not obtaining a proper risk assessment from the Risk Management Board.
The Home Office, however, defended its position. Its legal representative argued that Harry’s case “fails to see the wood for the trees,” implying he is missing the broader context behind the committee’s decision.
Harry is appealing a previous ruling that upheld the Home Office’s actions. The outcome of the case could have significant implications for his and his family's future visits to the UK.
