Prince Harry has made a startling claim about the royal family's approach to his security, suggesting it may have been used as a "deliberate tactic of control" during his departure from royal life.
In a candid interview with People, the Duke of Sussex opened up about the emotional toll of his ongoing legal battle over security arrangements in the UK. "It’s been exhausting and overwhelming," Harry said, adding that his "worst fears have been confirmed" through recent legal disclosures.
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, California. According to the Duke, they had hoped to continue supporting the monarchy from abroad, but their expectations — especially regarding personal protection — were not met.
Court documents reveal that Queen Elizabeth initially supported the couple’s need for “effective security,” but that protection was withdrawn after their departure from the UK. The Duke claims he believed his security would remain intact following the Sandringham Summit, but was devastated to learn otherwise.
Harry described the experience as “difficult to swallow,” suggesting that the abrupt removal of security may have been a strategy to pressure the couple into returning to royal duties.
