Sentebale chair slams lack of communication as charity event descends into disarray
Prince Harry was reportedly forced to contain behind-the-scenes tensions after Meghan Markle made an unannounced appearance at a charity polo match last year, sparking disruption and internal criticism.
According to Sky News, Dr. Sophie Chandauka, chair of Sentebale—the charity co-founded by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho—said Meghan’s surprise arrival at the Grand Champions Polo Club on April 12, alongside tennis star Serena Williams, created unexpected chaos.
“Had we been informed in advance, we would have been thrilled,” Dr. Chandauka said. “But since we weren’t, the on-stage coordination was chaotic, with too many people crowding the presentation.”
The situation reportedly became more complicated when Harry allegedly pressured Chandauka to issue a public statement supporting Meghan—a request she declined.
The revelation comes as Sentebale faces internal turmoil. Just last week, both Harry and Prince Seeiso resigned from their roles within the organisation, following disputes over leadership and a proposed fundraising shift to Africa. The two founders criticised Chandauka’s leadership, calling it untenable.
The incident has reignited concerns over Harry and Meghan's public image and their ongoing association with charitable organisations, especially amid growing scrutiny over how their presence impacts operational stability.
