Former top officer calls Duke’s accusations ‘bizarre’ after explosive interview
Prince Harry’s ongoing battle over UK security has taken a dramatic turn after a former royal protection chief publicly dismissed the Duke’s latest claims as “complete nonsense.”
Fresh controversy erupted following Harry’s recent interview, in which he alleged that his police protection was deliberately revoked to pressure him into remaining a working royal. He further suggested that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) treated him unfairly and implied only his father, King Charles, could reverse the decision.
These remarks followed the conclusion of Harry’s two-day legal appeal in London, where he is challenging the Home Office over the 2020 removal of his taxpayer-funded protection.
But Dai Davies, former head of Scotland Yard’s Royal Protection, slammed the Duke’s claims, calling them “bizarre.” “Harry has been assigned a liaison officer with access to the most current intelligence,” Davies said. “The idea that he needs 24/7 armed protection—or that Britain is unsafe for him—is simply not credible.”
He added, “This was a RAVEC decision—nothing to do with the Royal Family. The new narrative he’s pushing is frankly strange.”
A senior source also told The Mail on Sunday that Harry’s new argument was never raised during earlier discussions. “We don’t recall Prince Harry or his legal team making that case at the time,” the insider said. “It was always handled as a professional security matter.”
The source added that while RAVEC may have consulted Queen Elizabeth II, the late monarch “would not have been directly involved” in the final decision.
The court has yet to deliver a verdict on Harry’s appeal, but his remarks have sparked renewed criticism and intensified debate around his role, his protection, and his ever-tense ties with the royal family.
