Waleses choose warmth and openness over formality for George, Charlotte, and Louis
Prince William and Kate Middleton have quietly introduced a new approach to raising their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—one that steps away from long-established royal traditions in favor of a more personal and hands-on style.
Despite their prominent roles within the monarchy, the Prince and Princess of Wales have embraced a more open presence when it comes to their family life, particularly following Princess Kate’s recent cancer diagnosis. This increased visibility led some to believe their openness was a deliberate strategy to modernise the royal image.
However, royal author Gareth Russell told GB News that their parenting style is not part of any media tactic. “I don't think there’s any tactic behind it,” he said. “It’s genuinely that the Prince and Princess of Wales are involved and affectionate parents.”
He added, “The stories they tell are clearly being shared by loving parents—sometimes they're funny, sometimes they're sweet.”
Russell also noted that Prince William, while deeply respectful of royal tradition, reflects the values of a new generation of parents. “He’s spoken about his love for his parents and grandparents, but also his desire to do things a little differently,” he explained.
“Sharing family anecdotes publicly is much more common today. Decades ago, royal life was simply more formal,” Russell added.
William and Kate’s natural, down-to-earth parenting style signals a gentle but powerful shift within the royal family—driven not by image, but by authenticity and love.
