Kensington Palace Shares Special Video as Royals Support Aston Villa in Champions League Clash
Prince William surprised fans with a special father-son outing to Paris, treating Prince George to an exciting Champions League match between Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
The Prince of Wales and his son were spotted in the stands at Parc des Princes, cheering on William’s beloved Aston Villa. Kensington Palace later released a video update of the surprise visit, highlighting key moments from the evening.
Before the game began, William greeted the players with words of encouragement and even offered tactical insights during a chat with commentators Ally McCoist and Rio Ferdinand. “Obviously, there is a limit and that you know, can we get round the press? Can we beat it? So, I’m thinking long ball a bit but I’m thinking also how they’re going to get around the high press, so it’s going to be a challenging night,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the tactics Unai’s going to have to employ.”
The commentators joked that William’s football knowledge was so sharp he could give up royal duties for punditry, praising his breakdown of the match strategy.
The video was accompanied by the caption: “A big night in the Champions League under the lights. Not the result we wanted but it’s not over yet! Bring on the second leg at Villa Park! UTV.” The acronym “UTV” stands for “Up The Villa,” a common cheer among Aston Villa supporters.
