Princess Royal leads Gallipoli tribute amid monarch’s ongoing health treatment
Princess Anne has departed the UK for an important visit to Turkey, representing King Charles III during commemorations marking the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign.
The Princess Royal, accompanied by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, is carrying out the royal engagement on behalf of her brother as he continues to receive treatment for his health condition.
As President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), Anne is leading tributes to honour those who lost their lives in the historic First World War battle. Her visit began with a commemorative service at the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial, where she laid flowers and delivered a solemn address.
She is also scheduled to attend a service at the Morto Bay French National Cemetery and will lay a wreath at the Lantern Tower Memorial, underscoring the international scope of the Gallipoli commemorations.
Anne’s presence at both Turkish and French memorials highlights her dedication to honouring the fallen and maintaining the Crown’s commitment to remembrance.
Her trip closely follows Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s appearance at the TIME100 Summit in New York, where the Duchess discussed life post-royal duties and shared personal insights into family life with their children.
While attention remains on the Sussexes in the U.S., Princess Anne’s role on the global stage reflects the enduring importance of the monarchy’s ceremonial and diplomatic responsibilities.
