Late protector Graham Craker remembered as a steady, selfless figure in princes’ lives
Graham Craker, the late royal bodyguard who served as a devoted protector and “pseudo-parent” to Prince William and the Duke of Sussex, would have been “horrified” by the ongoing estrangement between the two brothers, according to a former royal protection officer.
Craker, affectionately known as “Crackers,” spent 15 years guarding the princes and was by their side during some of their most difficult moments, including the death of Princess Diana in 1997. His presence at Balmoral that day marked the beginning of a long-standing role as both guardian and emotional support figure.
Throughout the years, he remained a consistent and caring presence, from sharing joyful moments like a rollercoaster ride at Alton Towers in 1994 to attending William’s wedding in 2011.
Following his retirement, Craker dedicated himself to charity work, helping adults with disabilities and mental health challenges. Southern Maltings, where he volunteered, fondly referred to him as “our very own James Bond.”
Craker passed away on April 2. In a heartfelt tribute, his sons Matthew and James described him as “our hero, our rock,” expressing immense pride in his selfless life and the values he instilled in those around him.
