Wales family chose privacy in Norfolk as Prince Andrew’s appearance sparks renewed scrutiny
Prince William and Princess Kate’s absence from the Royal Family’s Easter service at St George’s Chapel has raised questions—especially following Prince Andrew’s unexpected appearance at the gathering.
While the Duke and Duchess of York joined other senior royals including Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence, the absence of the Prince and Princess of Wales drew particular attention. The couple opted to spend the Easter holiday privately with their children in Norfolk.
Royal expert Phil Dampier addressed speculation, stating that William and Kate’s decision to skip the service was not directly related to Andrew. However, he acknowledged the underlying tension.
“It is absolutely true to say that William is one of the driving forces behind making sure that there is no future for the Duke of York,” Dampier said. “There is, I am told, quite a lot of friction between them. It made it a lot easier, I think, for Andrew that William was not there.”
Other royals present included the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with their son James, as well as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The gathering, and who chose to attend or stay away, underscored the complex and evolving dynamics within the royal household.
